The Lord's Supper

The ordinance of the Church is the Lord's Supper.  It was instituted by our Saviour on the night in which He was betrayed and delivered to die on the cross for our sins. Matthew 26:26-30.  We are not saved by partaking in the Lord's Supper. It is a memorial of the death of Christ. We are to remember His sacrifice for us. 1 Corinthians 10:16.

The order Jesus gave is very plain (Matthew 28:19-20).

  1. Trust Jesus
  2. Be Baptized
  3. Observe the ordinances that Christ has given us to keep, one of which is the Lord's Supper.

The two elements of the Lord's Supper are (1) Bread and (2) "The Fruit of the Vine". These elements symbolize the body and the blood of Jesus Christ because when Jesus said these words, He was standing before the disciples and His blood was still coursing through His veins.  The bread and cup show forth His death.  While partaking, we also look forward to His coming again.  " There is no specified amount of time that we should observe the Lord's Supper. Jesus said, "As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you show forth the Lord's death until He comes". We must examine ourselves as we partake of the Lord's Supper. We should display an attitude of deep humility and reverence (1Corinthians 11:27-29).
